Back in 1949 a man known to many Houstonians simply as Richard opened his first liquor store at 2124 South Shepherd. In the old country, his family drank wine with every evening meal, so it was only natural for Richard to become Houston's first serious wine merchant. His philosophy: Know your product well, keep prices low and treat your customers like family. This is the philosophy that still guides us today. More »
SPIRITS OF MEXICO EDUCATION CLASS
When: 04/01/2015 7:00 - 8:00 PM
Where: Richard's Kirby Location
Meet and learn from Arturo Palencia, founder of Mestizo Mezcal Wednesday April 1, 2015 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Richard's Liquors and Fine Wines location on Kirby Drive at Westhiemer. The Spirits of Mexico! Arturo Plaencia will be leading this exciting class and sharing the history, growing regions, production styles and explaining how Mexican Spirits have grown in popularity and how they are evolving to meet the demand of an expanding global market. Arturo Palencia and Jessica Rosman, started MESTIZO MEZCAL in 2008 with two goals in mind: the first one was to bring to the US a well-balanced handcrafted mescal for Agave spirits lovers and for the American palate; and the second was to find and partner with a mescal producer that shared their desire to maintain the traditional, artisanal techniques that have been used to produce mescal in Mexico for hundreds of years. They settled on Santiago Matatlán, a small village located about an hour southeast from Oaxaca City, as it is one of the best mescal regions with a long history and tradition in mescal production. They established a partnership with one of the families that has been farming agave and producing mescal in small batches for generations. This led to the production of Mestizo Mescal. Mestizo Mezcal continues using the same techniques to produce their line of products that the family has used for nearly three hundred years! This area is also recognized as the "World Capital of Mescal! Due to space constraints this class will be limited to 40 attendees. So make your RSVP and plans NOW!
